D'Andrala Alexander completed Ballotpedia's Candidate Connection survey in 2019. The survey questions appear in bold and are followed by Alexander's responses.

What would be your top three priorities, if elected?

Improving public safety through community investment, increased economic opportunities, and programming. Fighting for increased affordable housing units and programs for aspiring homeowners. Improving the continuum of care and outcomes for homeless individuals.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

I am very passionate about affordable housing. I formerly worked at Habitat for Humanity advocating for affordable housing and I purchased my own home using an affordable housing program. I believe stable, clean, and safe housing is crucial to success for children and families.

Who do you look up to? Whose example would you like to follow, and why?

My parents. I watched them work, raise a family, and go back to school to provide a better life for me and my brother. They are dedicated to family and to community service and taught me the value of hard work.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Dedication, empathy, listening skills (therapist skills), and ability to bring people together.

What legacy would you like to leave?

I want to leave a legacy of public engagement for all people in Dallas regardless of age, race, or income status.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

Grocery store cashier during my junior and senior years of high school.

What is your favorite holiday? Why?

Halloween

January 7 response
What is your political philosophy?

I am running because we need young, progressive leaders to do what others can’t in Dallas: create a city that works for people of all backgrounds.

I have seen first hand through my job how certain forces trap people into a cycle of poverty. Things like a shortage of affordable housing, a lack of accessible mental health resources, and weak public infrastructure make it hard for people to achieve their goals.

I am running because we can do better in Lake Highlands and Hamilton Park to meet the needs of our community. I will do this the best way I know how, by rolling up my sleeves and getting to work.[3]

February 26 response
What is your political philosophy?

I have worked for years with at-risk youth in Dallas county. I have seen how the lack of attention and investment has effected them and stopped them from breaking the cycle of poverty. Just recently a report revealed that more than half of Dallas families are unable to afford the basic necessities. City council can be able to deal with these issues, through focus on affordable housing policy and investment in public services.[3]
